In today’s hectic world more users are wanting to book when it is convenient for them, some users prefer to book without speaking to anyone directly, this suggests you could be missing out on a lot of potential customers if you don’t take online bookings.

According to the National Office of Statistics:

  • 38 million adults in the UK accessed the Internet every day in 2014, 21 million more than in 2006
  • 74% of people bought goods or services online, up from 53% in 2008

The graph below shows daily computer use by age group in 2006 and again in 2014. It is clear to see the rise in the use of the technology and the Internet.

According to the Mintel Research Group Ltd and their report ‘Holiday Review – UK – January 2016 Holiday Booking Methods’ a large proportion of holiday bookings are now made online with several bricks and mortar travel agencies suffering insolvency in the 12 months to March 2014. The graph below shows holiday booking methods in November 2015 based on 1644 internet users aged 16+ who have taken a holiday in the last year.

It is clear that attitudes towards booking holidays with over half of consumers believing that holidays are better value for money when booked online according to Mintel. The chart below is based on 2,000 Internet users aged 16+ and shows attitudes towards booking holidays online in February 2012.

From this information it is clear a booking online option is essential on the newly designed Corner House Caravan and Camp Site website. It is vital that the online booking system functionality is efficient, a poor booking system which takes a long time to check availability and make a booking, will frustrate customers and potentially drive them elsewhere.
